A learning objective describes a specific topic to be taught to the students and the competencies that students are expected to acquire. Its encompassing area of knowledge is defined by the corresponding domain.

General information about a learning objective, e.g. its domain, a short description of its content ("LO-Text") and a list of "verbs" defining the abilities and depth of knowledge to be imparted to a student (level 4 being the most profound) are listed in the table on the top.

A table further below displays all learning objectives subordinate to the currently viewed one.

Creating a new learning objective

To create a new learning objective, go to the main page of its parent catalogue and click the button "Add a new learning objective" underneath the catalogue information table on the left. You will be redirected to a form where you can enter the required data. If you have no permission to edit the form please contact the HI-LONa administrator.

LO-ID

gives the creator of a Learning objective catalog the opportunity to give the learning objectives of his catalog self-determined identifiers. The uniqueness isn't controlled.

LO-Text (De), LO-Text (EN)

description of the learning objectiv's content. In HI-LONa it was planed at first to write the verbs of a learning objective, that describe the expected depth of the acqired competence, into the corresponding fields "Verb in Niveau 1" to "Verb in Niveau 4". Now we see that specially in German it is difficult to seperate the topic from the verbs and at the same time to get an easy-to-read text. For that we decided to write the topic and the verbs into the field "LO-Text" an to use "Niveau 1" ... "Niveau 4" only to sign the abilities and depth of knowledge of a learning objective

• Niveau 1: know and understand
• Niveau 2: apply and analyse
• Niveau 3: evaluate and synthesise
• Niveau 4: attitudes, values and mindset.

It is the authors duty to choose corresponding verbs and niveaus.

Role

defines a professional the conveyed skills are aimed at. Select the appropriate term from the dropdown menu.

Parent LO

This attribute makes the newly created learning objective subordinate to the entered learning objective and will be listed as such on the parent's page. In order to select a Parent LO, its unique identifier must be entered, e.g. "LZ-PIN 101". Type at least one letter to browse learning objectives in the dropdown menu.

Sources of this LO

Since August 2026 the sources of a learning objective can be cited directly by giving the pagename of a corresponding learning objective or a corresponding module description (if they are documented in HI-LONa). It is still possible to have a version step as source of a learning objective as it was before August 2026.

When finished click "Save page" on the lower left. HI-LONa automatically assigns a unique identifier starting with "LZ-PIN" as the page name.

Editing an existing learning objective

If you would like to edit an existing learning objective, click the tab "Edit with form" on the top right of the learning objective page. You will be redirected to the same form used to create a new learning objective with all current meta data pre-filled.
